SUBJECT:MAN ARRESTED FOR SEXUALLY ABUSING 8-YR.-OLD GIRL IN ALLEY

Youth Aid Bureau Detectives arrested a 42-year-old man Friday afternoon and charged him with sexually abusing an 8-year-old girl on Thursday at about 4 p.m. in an alley off of Huron Street.

Charles P. McCauley, 425 Hamilton Street in Schenectady, is charged with Aggravated Sexual Abuse-2nd degree, Sexual Abuse-1st degree, Reckless Endangerment-2nd degree and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. He was arraigned Friday evening and remanded to the Schenectady County Jail.

The victim was at the corner of Park Place and Huron when she was approached by McCauley. He grabbed her arm and forcibly dragged her north on Huron, then into the alley that runs between Park Place and Barrett Street. While in the alley, McCauley threatened to “cut her head off” if she screamed and sexually abused her. He then ran south down the alley to South Avenue.

The victim and McCauley did not know each other. Detectives conducted surveillance Friday in the area of the incident. Shortly after 4 p.m., they observed McCauley – who fit the attacker’s description – walking on Park Place and detained him for investigation. He was subsequently identified as the attacker.
