SUBJECT:2 MEN ARRESTED ON GUN CHARGES AFTER HIT & RUN/PURSUIT


Two men were arrested on gun charges Monday evening after fleeing from a “hit and run” vehicle crash.

Patrol Officer Jeffrey St. Onge was patrolling on Carrie Street at about 5:20 p.m. when he observed a black Jeep driving south on Carrie fail to stop for the stop sign at Hattie Street and strike a vehicle traveling on Hattie. The Jeep then fled the scene with Officer St. Onge in pursuit. The pursuit ended less than 1 minute later when the Jeep stopped in front of 722 Kenwood Avenue and the 2 male occupants ran. Officer St. Onge found a loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun on the ground next to the Jeep and a loaded .32 caliber revolver inside the Jeep.

The passenger, 19-year-old Jamel Pollard of Far Rockaway, was apprehended at Van Vranken Avenue and Lang Street. He is charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon-3rd degree.

The driver, 18-year-old Akim Umer, also of Far Rockaway, was captured in the basement of 1570 Van Vranken, a vacant residence. He is charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon-3rd and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance-5th for possessing 50 bags of heroin.

Both men were remanded to the Schenectady County Jail.
