Detectives are investigating the rape of a young woman who was grabbed at knifepoint on Hamilton Hill while walking home Monday evening.

The 18-year-old victim reported that she was walking south on Hulett Street near Duane Avenue at about 9:30 p.m. when a black male grabbed her from behind, pulled her coat over her head and held a knife against her neck. When she struggled, the man cut her cheek and then dragged her behind a vacant house between 488 and 494 Hulett, and raped her. After the attack, the perpetrator ran from the scene in an unknown direction. The victim went home and called police.

The victim was treated at Ellis Hospital.

The perpetrator is described as a black male, about 58 tall, muscular build and large lips. He was wearing a white tank top, dark pants and a dark baseball cap.
