A 45-year-old man has been charged with murdering his 48-year-old wife inside their 1651 Fourth Avenue home at about 1:15 this morning.

David Sonachansing and Gloria Pasea-Sonachansing were arguing on the first floor of the home. As the victim was walking upstairs to the second floor, David Sonachansing shot her once in the head with a .22 caliber rifle, killing her. Upon hearing the shot, the victim’s 26-year-old daughter emerged from a second floor bedroom and saw her mother lying at the bottom of the stairs bleeding. She retreated back into a bedroom and called police from inside a closet. Responding officers could not gain entry to the home and several attempts to make contact with David Sonachansing were unsuccessful. The Department’s Special Operations Squad responded and used a ladder to rescue the victim’s daughter through a second floor window. She was not injured in the incident. The Special Operations Squad then forcibly gained entry to the home and took Sonachansing into custody. The rifle used in the shooting was recovered.

David Sonachansing has been charged with Murder-2nd degree. He was arraigned this afternoon and sent to the Schenectady County Jail.

The victim’s daughter’s name is not being released.
