A man is being sought for attacking a 28-year-old woman as she was walking on Park Place at about 3:30 this afternoon.

The woman reported that as she was walking on Park between South Avenue and Union Street, a black male got out of a parked car and approached her from behind. He grabbed a necklace she was wearing and dragged her to his car, pushing her up against it. The woman fought with the man and he let her go. The woman then ran to Police Headquarters one block away to report the attack. The man got back into his car and drove away. The car was last seen traveling south on Lafayette Street toward State Street.

The woman was not injured and was able to retain her necklace. The suspect did not display a weapon and did not say anything to the victim during the attack.

The suspect is described as a dark-skinned black male approximately 40-years-old. He had a beard, and was wearing a black sweater and black boots. He was driving an older model gray 4-door sedan.

It is unknown if the manís intent was to abduct the woman or rob her of her necklace.
