SUBJECT:Police Initiative in Woodlawn Nature Preserve

In response to numerous complaints from Woodlawn residents and to prevent further damage to the Woodlawn nature preserve the Department will begin an enforcement initiative inside the nature preserve.

The initiative will target unauthorized activity inside the preserve, including littering, use of any motorized vehicles, use of firearms, open fires, alcohol and drug consumption, and illegal dumping.

NYS Environmental Conservation Police will be assisting in the initiative.

Police will take a zero-tolerance approach toward violators. Violators will face arrest and penalties of up to $1,000 and 15 days in jail. Violators operating motorized vehicles face additional Vehicle and Traffic Law charges, as well as towing and impound fees.
