SUBJECT:ELDERLY MAN STRUCK & CRITICALLY INJURED BY SUV

An 88-year-old Ballston Lake man was critically injured when he was run over by a sport utility vehicle inside the Ellis Hospital parking garage at about noon today.

Wilton Raney entered the parking garage from the hospital and was being assisted by a security guard in looking for his car. As the guard crossed a driving ramp, a Ford SUV operated by 42-year-old Joette Khamis of Troy came around the corner onto the ramp. Ms. Khamis stated that she was looking to her left at the guard to make sure he was clear of her vehicle as she drove through an altered traffic lane due to repair work, and did not see Mr. Raney who was trailing behind the guard and in front of her vehicle. Mr. Raney was struck, knocked to the ground and run over by the driverís side front tire.

Mr. Raney is currently in critical condition in the intensive care unit.

The investigation is continuing. Speed, alcohol and drugs were not factors in the crash.
