SUBJECT:MAN CHARGED WITH RAPING TWO 11-YEAR-OLD GIRLS

A 30-year-old city man has been arrested and charged with raping two 11-year-old girls inside his Park Place apartment early Monday morning.

Harold Britten, Jr. was babysitting the victims – along with another 5-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy – while the children’s mothers were away.

At separate times, Britten woke each of the girls, brought them into his bedroom and raped them.

One of the girls reported the attack to a school official on Monday, who in turn notified a School Resource Officer from the Schenectady Police Department. Detectives from the Youth Aid Bureau immediately began an investigation and Britten was taken into custody at about 1:45 this morning after he was found hiding inside his attic.

Britten is charged with 2 counts of the felony of Rape in the 1st Degree and 2 counts of the misdemeanor of Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

He was arraigned in Police Court this morning and remanded to the Schenectady County Jail.
