A 22-year-old city man currently on parole for a handgun possession conviction was arrested Tuesday evening and charged with several drug and weapons crimes.

Arnold Marcus Howard was arrested after state parole officers and members of the Department’s Office of Field Intelligence discovered illegal drugs and guns during a search of his 420 Brandywine Avenue home. Howard’s arrest was the result of an investigation that was initiated after parole officers received information that he was involved in criminal activity.

Found inside Howard’s residence was 2-pounds of cocaine, 8-ounces of marihuana, 29 Ecstasy tablets, a loaded assault rifle, a loaded semi-automatic handgun, a shotgun that had been stolen during a 2001 Schenectady burglary, and $4,500 cash.

Howard is charged with the felonies of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance (CPCS)-1st degree, CPCS-3rd, Criminal Possession of a Weapon-3rd, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property-4th and Criminal Possession of Marihuana-3rd, and the misdemeanor of CPCS-7th.

He was arraigned this morning in Police Court and remanded to the Schenectady County Jail.
