SUBJECT:29 ARRESTS MADE DURING WEEKEND DWI CHECKPOINT
In an effort to make the roadways safer during this holiday season, the Schenectady Police Department and the New York State Police conducted a joint DWI checkpoint on Saturday evening and early Sunday morning that resulted in 29 arrests on a variety of charges.
The initiative – in which 2,400 vehicles passed through – was conducted on the Western Gateway Bridge from 8 p.m. Saturday evening until 4 a.m. Sunday morning.
Eight people were arrested for misdemeanor driving while intoxicated, 9 for driving with a suspended vehicle registration, 6 for driving with a suspended driver’s license, 3 wanted on warrants, 2 for unlawful possession of marihuana, and 1 for driving with ability impaired by drugs. In addition, 44 traffic tickets were issued for various violations.
The checkpoint was conducted with assistance from Schenectady County Stop DWI.
