SUBJECT:TEEN CAPTURED SHORTLY AFTER BURGLARIZING JEWELRY STORE
A 16-year-old city boy has been arrested for burglarizing a Chrisler Avenue jewelry store early this morning.
At about 5:20 a.m., a security company notified the Department of a burglar alarm coming from Regency Jewelers at 1702 Chrisler. A responding officer confirmed that someone had smashed out a front window and glass door. A passerby advised the officer that he saw a black male run north on Altamont Avenue, and the officer saw the suspect – 16-year-old Tyquawn Terry of 1321 Chrisler Avenue – go between two houses on Altamont. He gave chase on foot and several officers joined in the search. Terry was eventually found hiding behind a house on nearby Santa Fe Street and taken into custody. Seven watches he had stolen from the store were recovered. Terry sustained a laceration to one of his hands during the burglary.
Terry is charged with the felonies of Burglary-3rd degree and Criminal Mischief-2nd degree, and the misdemeanor of Resisting Arrest.
Terry is being held at Police Headquarters awaiting arraignment on Monday morning at 9 a.m.
