SUBJECT:Schenectady Celebrates National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week

Each year, the second full week in April is dedicated nationally to the men and women who serve as public safety telecommunicators. The week has been observed since the early 1990ís when Congress passed legislation honoring the nationís men and women who serve behind the scenes providing an essential public safety function.

This year, National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week will be celebrated from April 13th through April 19th. During the week, Schenectady Police Public Safety Dispatchers will be welcoming visitors to their recently enhanced dispatch center. Visitors will have the opportunity to see the most technologically advanced dispatch center in the area. Tours will include a demonstration of a cellular 9-1-1 call and the new systems and protocols for call taking and dispatching will be demonstrated.

Tours will be available on the following dates:

Monday, April 14th at 11:00 am, 2:00 pm, and 7:00 pm
Thursday, April 17th at 11:00 am, 4:00 pm, and 7:00 pm
Saturday, April 19th at 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm
