SUBJECT:City Man Arrested in Hattie Street Shooting Death

A Schenectady man has been arrested and charged in connection with the July 6th Hattie Street shooting death of Anthony Ruiz.

Zachary Epperson, 31, of 1562 Carrie Street, Schenectady, was seen operating a vehicle in Schenectady last night just after 7 PM. He fled into Saratoga County as patrol officers attempted to stop him. He was last seen by officers at approximately 7:20 PM eastbound on Route 146 in Clifton Park.

Epperson’s vehicle was later located by Saratoga County Sheriff Deputies at a Clifton Park restaurant. Epperson was taken into custody by them just before 9:00 PM after running from a payphone at the restaurant. He was turned over to Schenectady Police and transported back to Schenectady.

Epperson has been charged with Second Degree Manslaughter. He was arraigned this morning and remanded to the Schenectady County Jail without bail. He is scheduled to appear again tomorrow in Schenectady City Court.
