SUBJECT:POLICE ATHLETIC LEAGUE SOCCER PROGRAM BEGINS

The Schenectady Police Athletic League’s soccer program begins its 4th season today at the Center City Sports Complex on State Street in downtown Schenectady.

The program is for 5th and 6th graders, and is conducted after school every Monday and Wednesday from 3:15–5 p.m. 140 kids have registered for the program that runs until April.

The program is directed by Schenectady Police Officer Kevin Green and Schenectady County Sheriff’s Department Corrections Officer Sean Hawkins. They are assisted by players from the Union College men’s and women’s teams, players from the Schenectady High School boy’s team, and adult volunteers.

Participants are taught soccer skills, teamwork and sportsmanship, as well as other skills that apply to both athletics and life. Participants are also given the opportunity to climb the rock wall at Center City.

This is a valuable and worthwhile program that will have a positive effect on the participants.
