SUBJECT: UPCOMING “CLICK IT OR TICKET” SEAT BELT INITIATIVE
Beginning this Monday, November 17th and running through Sunday, November 30th, the Schenectady Police Department will join the New York State Police and more than 13,000 law enforcement agencies in this year’s second 2-week nationwide crackdown on seat belt violators called "Click It or Ticket."
This campaign coincides with "Buckle-Up New York," a program of the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee, which provides the Department with traffic safety grants.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in 2001 more than 5,300 people – ages 16-20 – were killed and thousands more were injured in traffic crashes. Fatality rates for teens are twice that of older drivers, and the risk of crashes for teens is four times that of older drivers. 2 out of 5 deaths among teens are the result of a traffic crash.
