SUBJECT:MAN SERIOUSLY INJURED IN I-890 ACCIDENT
Officers are investigating an accident that occurred at about 7:20 this evening on the arterial of I-890 westbound between Broadway and Washington that seriously injured a Schenectady man.
Antonio Harris, 26, was a passenger in a car that broke down in one of the driving lanes. Harris was standing outside the vehicle on the passenger side. Elizabeth Burbage, 21, of Scotia was driving westbound on I-890 and attempted to avoid hitting the disabled vehicle, but sideswiped the right side of the vehicle and struck Harris.
Harris sustained a very serious injury to his right leg, and possibly other injuries. He was treated at the scene by Schenectady Fire Department paramedics and transported to Albany Medical Center for further treatment. He is currently in serious condition.
The driver of the vehicle Harris was riding in left the scene before officers arrived.
NYS DOT, the State Police, and the Scotia Fire Department assisted at the scene.
