SUBJECT:DATE/TIME: Thursday, January 29th, 2004 102: 15 PM SUBJECT: BURGLARY WI CHILD ABDUCTED - RELEASED UNHARMED

Detectives are investigating a burglary that occurred at about 2:45 this morning at 1213 First Avenue, in which the male intruder abducted a 9.,.year-old girl from her bed, forced her to leave with him, and then released her unharmed near 1237 First Avenue.

The intruder entered the residence by prying open a locked rear door. Once inside the apartment, he entered the girl's bedroom where she was sleeping alone. He woke her up, put his hand over her mouth, and instructed her to go with him. They left the residence through the rear door. The girl was dressed in bedclothes and was barefoot. The intruder walked her out to the front of the building and onto First Avenue. They then walked down the street to 1237 First Avenue where - for some unknown reason - the man released the girl and told her she could go home. The girl then ran home.

Her mother had heard her screaming, went to check on her, and noticed her daughter was gone from her bedroom and the apartment door was open. She then called police. The girl returned home just prior to officers arriving.

Officers followed footprints believed to be the intruder's from 1213 First Ave. to 1237 First Ave., into that residence's rear yard, and onto Spring Street where they disappeared. We believe that the intruder had a vehicle parked on Spring St. and fled in an unknown direction.

The intruder is described as a white male, about 5'9"-5'10" tall, wearing black gloves, black pants, black puffy coat, black wool hat, and a black scarf covering his face (no further description provided).

There were 3 other children in the home at the time of the incident, but only the 9year-old was approached.

At this time, there are no suspects and we do not know the intruder's motive.
