SUBJECT:RESULTS OF “SCHOOL’S OPEN” TRAFFIC INITIATIVES

Schools in the City of Schenectady re-opened last Wednesday, September 3rd. In order to remind all motorists to be aware of the increase in bus and pedestrian traffic, and to drive safely, a traffic safety initiative was conducted Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. The initiative targeted aggressive driving, speeding, stop sign violations and passing stopped school buses.

During the 3-day initiative, 171 traffic tickets were issued.

Costs associated with conducting the initiative were paid for by a grant from the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee.

More of these initiatives will be conducted throughout the school year.
