SUBJECT:Hess Mart Robbery – 229 S. Brandywine Ave.

Schenectady Police Detectives are investigating a robbery that occurred this morning at the Hess Mart, 229 S. Brandywine Ave. According to store personnel, two suspects entered the store at approximately 3:50 am ostensibly to make a purchase. As the cash register drawer was opened, one of the suspects forced his way around the counter past one clerk, pushed another clerk away from the cash drawer, then stole an undetermined amount of cash. After a short struggle with the clerks, both suspects fled the store. No weapons were displayed during the robbery.

Store personnel have described the robbery suspects as follows:

Suspect #1 – black male, dark complexion, approximately 5’8” tall, 20-25 years old. At the time of the robbery, this suspect was wearing a black jacket over a white tee shirt. He was also wearing a black head covering.

Suspect #2 – black male, medium complexion, approximately 5’9” tall, thin face, no facial hair. At the time of the robbery, this suspect’s clothing included a white tee shirt and a dark colored baseball cap. This suspect was riding a bicycle.

After responding to the crime scene, patrol officers observed a male fitting the description of one of the robbery suspects in the area. Sean H. Williams, 29, of 766 State Street, Schenectady, was stopped on his bicycle on Brandywine Avenue approximately one block from the Hess Mart. While being interviewed by police, Williams attempted to flee. After a short foot pursuit and struggle with officers, Williams was placed under arrest. Upon further investigation, it was learned there was an outstanding warrant for Williams’ arrest on an unrelated matter. Williams was later charged with Criminal Impersonation, Resisting Arrest, Obstruction of Governmental Administration, and Second Degree Assault.
